History of the Boston Red Sox

The history of the Boston Red Sox is rich with lore. The are the reigning 2007 World Series Champions and this came after a very long dry spell with no World Series wins. The Boston Red Sox are one of the oldest teams in the league and have made their team home since 1912 at Fenway Park, sometimes called “The Fens”.

This history of the Boston Red Sox name comes from the uniform feature of red around the sock area of the uniform. No matter which uniform the team is wearing, home or away or an alternate – the sock area is always red.

The Boston Red Sox club was actually formed in 1901, they were the team to beat and beat they did of the Pittsburgh Pirates in the first World Series in 1903. They went on to win four more championships by 1918, and then went into one of the longest periods without a win in baseball history. Many people attributed their inability to win to the “Curse of the Bambino” that was said to have been caused by the

The Rain Maker Sports: Sports Bytes – June 4, 2010

Bud Selig made the right decision. When I first learned that Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Gallaraga was denied a perfect game because of a blatantly errant call by umpire Jim Joyce, I immediately felt that the MLB Commissioner should overturn the mistake. But after listening to the arguments of those who felt otherwise, and remembering Game 6 of the 1985 World Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Kansas City Royals, I realized that Selig made the right move. In the 1985 World Series, the Cardinals were ahead 3-2 in games and leading 1-0 in the ninth inning of Game 6 when Royals utility player Jorge Orta hit a ground ball to 1B Jack Clark. Clark made the play and tossed it to pitcher Todd Worrell, who arrived at the first base bag in plenty of time. However, umpire Don Denkinger mistakenly called Orta safe. The Royals eventually scored two runs in that inning to win the game 2-1, and then destroyed the Cardinals in Game 7 (11-0) to win the Series. No change

North Minneapolis 2009 ? ?40/40/40 Community Benefits Agreement? Must be a Part of Business as Usual to Help Community Growth

“If it’s not growing, it’s going to die.”

…Michael Eisner

In 2009 north Minneapolis community coalitions need to implement a “40/40/40 Community Benefits Agreement” with any organization planning to develop, create or build in the community. A community benefits agreement, or CBA, is a private contract between a developer and a community coalition that sets forth the benefits that the community will receive from the development. Common benefits include living wages, local hiring and training programs, affordable housing, environmental remediation and funds for community programs. CBAs ensure that development is equitable and benefits all members of the community, eventually contributing to stronger local economies, livable neighborhoods and increased public participation in the planning process.

The 40/40/40 CBA is structured to

Visit the Diversity of New York City

New York City is a culturally diverse city. This is true in the many areas that are the “melting pot” of American society. Among the constituents of this “melting pot” are communities in Harlem, The Bronx, and Brooklyn. Each has added to the growth of not only the city but of the entire country. Each lends its unique imprint to the society that America has become.

Harlem is known for its African American community today. Few, however, realize that its beginning was as a Dutch settlement in the 1700s. In the 1920s, Harlem began its metamorphosis to an African American society. Known for the activism of the 1960s, Harlem is enjoying a renaissance as the community’s brownstone renovations and economic growth open doors for a pleasant ethnic experience upon a visit during a Big Apple vacation. Often ignored in an itinerary, it has become a “must see” of New York City as people visit its churches, nightclubs, restaurants, and museums. There are wonderful tours that

Los Angeles Dodgers Baseball History

Technically speaking, it was the Los Angeles Dodgers that started to commercialize baseball. When the team was formed in the late 1800, amateur baseball leagues have gained popularity amongst the people who loved the game.

The Dodgers got its name from the Brooklyn nickname “trolley dodger”. This term refers to anybody from Brooklyn, New York, because they tend to dodge the trains and the cars on the borough as they try to play on the streets. Initially, the team was known as the Brooklyn Trolley Dodgers.

The archrivals of the Dodgers are the Giants. And their rivalry can be traced way back centuries ago. The Dodgers and the Giants are both from New York. If the Dodgers are from Brooklyn, the Giants are from Manhattan. They practically have the whole state torn apart. When the teams were transported from New York to California, the rivalry was merely transplanted. In 1958, the Dodgers became the seeds from Los Angeles while the Giants represented San

Deck yourself in attractive St. Louis Cardinals merchandise

St. Louis Cardinals are a mighty team of Major League Baseball that has won 10 World Series titles, the last one being in 2006. They are second only to the New York Yankees in MLB who have a record of winning 26 titles. Besides, St. Louis Cardinals have won 17 pennants and several Division titles. Needless to say, the team has an outstanding fan following across the United States who show extreme passion when it comes to rooting for their beloved Cardinals. The fans make sure they buy tickets for the Cardinals game and flaunt loads of St. Louis Cardinals merchandise to encourage the players and show the whole world how much they like their ‘Cards’. During the tailgating parties, you will find glasses, tumblers, mats and caps, flasks and thermos all sporting the beautiful Cardinals’ birds logo.

Fondly known as ‘Redbirds’ or just the ‘Birds’, the St. Louis Cardinals are a part of a Central Division in the National League of MLB. The team has been

5 Great Sports Books throughout the Years

5 Great Sports Books throughout the Years

There have been thousands of sports books written throughout the years. Some have been absolute crap and most are mediocre at best, but there are that select few that remain deep-seated in our memories as classics. Below is my Top 5 of all time. There are some popular books missing – either because I don’t think it is as good as everyone else, or because I haven’t read it.

5. Foul Ball, By Jim Bouton – Bouton gives a candid look at a corrupt sports town. All he wants to do is keep a classic stadium alive, but local businesses and politicians oppose him for selfish reasons. They will do what’s right for their businesses regardless of the effects on the community. Beyond sports, their actions also are detrimental to the health and well being of those who live there. It’s amazing how greedy and selfish some people can be…and Bouton exposes them ALL.

4. Eight Men Out, By Eliot Asinof – This was a very, very interesting read and that is why I rate
